Payroll Accountant III, Remote

Job Summary: The Payroll Accountant III is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and compliance of payroll-related financial processes. This includes preparing and maintaining payroll account reconciliations, supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, and providing support for internal and external audits. The Payroll Accountant will also identify opportunities for process improvements, maintain compliance records, and provide subject matter expertise on key financial/accounting matters. Essential Functions: Prepare and maintain payroll-related account reconciliations including payroll tax accounts and investigate and resolve discrepancies between payroll system records and tax filings. Prepare and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities by preparing and ensuring all adjusting and accrual journal entries and entered and posted. Support internal and external audits by providing payroll documentation, reconcile and validate data, sampling and testing, and analysis. Identify, recommend and implement quality and productivity improvements. Document tax processes and maintain compliance records for regulatory and audit purposes. Maintain standard operating procedures. Provide subject matter expertise or recurring and ad hoc reports and analysis on key financial/accounting matters to appropriate leaders and/or areas within the organization. Maintain accurate tax jurisdiction setup in payroll systems to ensure proper withholding and register for state and local tax accounts. Apply knowledge of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) to accurately calculate employee compensation, including gross-to-net pay, pre-tax and post-tax benefits, and their impact on taxable wages. Research and resolve payroll tax notices from government agencies and state/local taxing authorities (IRS, Department of Revenue, etc.). Support quarter-end and year-end payroll tax reporting including W-2 preparation and reconciliation of quarter-to-date and year-to-date payroll wages, taxes, and deductions in the payroll system and ensure totals reconcile with general ledger payroll accounts. Required Experience: 4+ years related work experience. Related Bachelor's degree required Accounting or Finance Strong oral and written communication skills Proficient in Excel Experience with General Ledger ERP systems Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Oracle HCM and ADP FPC or CPP Certification Preferred General Physical Demands: Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Annualized Salary Range: $71,200 - $115,700 Typical Annualized Hiring Range: $71,200 - $89,000 Final pay will be determined with consideration of market competitiveness, internal equity, and the job-related knowledge, skills, training, and experience you bring.
