Freelance Reporter/Writer for Animal Welfare Nonprofit
POSITION SUMMARY Lady Freethinker seeks a freelance reporter/writer to create compelling news articles and mission-driven petitions. The successful applicant will be an engaging writer with exemplary grammar skills and keen attention to detail. They will use author content to grow LFT’s influence, increase engagement, and advance animal protection campaigns. Ideal candidates will have excellent communication skills, know how to disseminate facts into clear, impactful content, organize their time and tasks well, and demonstrate a commitment to animal welfare. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Research & write compelling, accurate copy for petitions and news stories involving animal protection
- Edit articles to elevate quality & impact of content
- Follow guidelines to ensure proper use of voice & consistent communication with LFT’s key audiences
- Creating eye-catching headlines
- Choosing emotion-eliciting images that will compel readers to share and take action
- Fact-check news stories and petitions to ensure accuracy
- Compile information and transform it into easy to understand content for a broad audience
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated experience strategically engaging audiences
- Knowledge of AP style
- Strong comprehension of factual information and the ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, concise manner
- Impeccable attention to detail, including excellent spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills
- Demonstrated experience developing compelling, high-quality creative content (text, image, and video)
- Solid technological skills, including proficiency in cloud-based platforms and communications tools
- Impeccable writing skills, with proven success in engaging readers and inspiring action
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing LFT’s values, mission, and goals, with an understanding of animal welfare advocacy
- The ability to take direction well, receive constructive feedback, and work independently as needed
