Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit insurance claims to third-party payers for patients receiving Pharmacy care
- Review electronic health records to determine billable charges and ensure accurate submission of claims
- Maintain organized file systems for billed claims and backup documentation for audits
- Verify insurance coverage, follow up on submitted claims, and resolve issues with claims
- Respond to inquiries from patients, physicians, and insurance companies regarding billing questions
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- For Pharmacy Billing Specialist II: One (1) year of pharmacy billing experience or equivalent education/training
- For Pharmacy Billing Specialist III: Three (3) years of professional experience at Alaska Native Medical Center Pharmacy or related experience
- For Pharmacy Billing Specialist IV: Five (5) years of professional experience at Alaska Native Medical Center Pharmacy or related experience
- Current Pharmacy Technician License required
Preferred Qualifications
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification within one year of employment for Pharmacy Billing Specialist I
- Prior experience in a healthcare billing environment
- Knowledge of medical billing and accounting procedures and applications
- Familiarity with commercial insurance and government reimbursement programs
- Strong customer service skills and ability to maintain cooperative working relationships
