Senior Telecom Systems Engineer

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Telecom Systems Engineer to join their team in Durham, North Carolina, US . This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, blending on-site collaboration with remote flexibility. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in telecommunications systems, network architecture, and performance optimization. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of critical telecom infrastructure, ensuring high availability and cutting-edge performance. This position requires a deep technical understanding and the ability to contribute to strategic network planning. Key Responsibilities: Design, deploy, and manage complex telecommunications systems, including wireless (4G/5G), VoIP, and IP networking infrastructure. Perform system analysis and diagnostics to identify and resolve network performance issues and ensure optimal functionality. Develop and implement network upgrades, enhancements, and configurations to support evolving business needs. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate telecom solutions with other IT systems and applications. Stay current with emerging technologies in the telecommunications field and evaluate their potential application. Develop and maintain comprehensive system documentation, including network diagrams, configuration details, and troubleshooting guides. Conduct capacity planning and performance monitoring to ensure network scalability and reliability. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers. Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices in network security and operations. Participate in the evaluation and selection of new hardware and software for the telecom environment. Respond to and resolve escalated technical issues from the operations team. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in telecommunications systems engineering. Deep understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, MPLS, BGP, OSPF) and routing/switching technologies. Hands-on experience with wireless technologies (LTE, 5G NR), small cells, and backhaul solutions. Familiarity with VoIP technologies and platforms. Experience with network monitoring and analysis tools. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document technical information clearly. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a hybrid work environment. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, CCIE) are highly desirable.
