Controls Design Engineer

The Controls Design Engineer is responsible for the design, documentation, and technical support of building automation and control systems. This role translates project requirements, sequences of operation, and standards into clear, buildable control drawings and design packages that support installation, programming, commissioning, and long‑term operation. 📍 Working Location: Lawrenceville, GA. (Remote option) 💰 Pay Range: $85K - $110K (depending on experience) 🕒 Base hours/Schedule: M - F, 7am - 3:30pm (40 - 50hrs per week) Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, Retirement, Short/Long term disability, performance bonus and moreKey Responsibilities: Design & Engineering Develop control system designs for HVAC and building automation systems (BAS) Create control drawings using Visio (schematics, network diagrams, panel layouts, point‑to‑point wiring) Interpret mechanical, electrical, and architectural drawings to develop coordinated control designs Develop and review Sequences of Operation for accuracy, clarity, and constructability Select control devices (controllers, sensors, actuators, valves, dampers, relays, power supplies) Documentation & Submittals Produce complete control submittal packages, including: Control diagrams Points lists Network architecture Panel layouts Device schedules Ensure drawings are correctly scaled, labeled, and compliant with company standards Revise drawings based on internal QA, customer comments, and field conditions Maintain version control and revision tracking Technical Coordination Coordinate with project managers, field technicians, programmers, and commissioning staff Support RFI responses related to control design and scope Clarify design intent for installation and programming teams Participate in design reviews and kickoff meetings Standards & Quality Apply company standards, industry best practices, and applicable codes Ensure fail‑safe operation, interlocks, and proper control logic intent Support continuous improvement of templates, standards, and design workflows
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent industry experience 1+ years of experience in HVAC controls or building automation Strong proficiency with Microsoft Visio for technical drawings Solid understanding of: HVAC systems and control strategies Sensors, actuators, and control devices BACnet/IP and MS/TP networks Ability to read and interpret construction documents Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Preferred Qualifications
