Summer Intern – Mechanical Design & Project Coordination

Vincent Helton & Associates is a specialist in architectural water feature and fountain design. We combine mechanical engineering with creative design to deliver award-winning water features for public spaces, commercial developments, and civic projects. Our work spans design, engineering coordination, construction documentation, and project delivery. We collaborate closely with architects, developers, municipalities, and contractors to bring water and motion into architectural environments. We are looking for a Summer Intern to support our team within a fast-paced, hands-on engineering environment. This is an entry-level internship designed for students enrolled in mechanical engineering, mechanical drafting, or related co-op/internship programs. The role combines:

  • Mechanical drafting (AutoCAD)
  • Project coordination support
  • Site and warehouse exposure
  • Client and vendor communication assistance

You will work closely with our project manager, designer, and sales engineer to support real project delivery from mechanical design to parts procurement. The scope can include, but not limited to, as follow: AutoCAD Drafting and Design Support

  • Assist in preparing and updating AutoCAD drawings and shop drawings
  • Support basic mechanical layout and component detailing for water feature systems
  • Learn and apply fundamental mechanical system design concepts (pumps, piping, controls)

Project coordination support

  • Assist in responding to client inquiries and project documentation requests
  • Support preparation of quotations, proposals, and RFP/RFI responses
  • Assist in organizing project files and maintaining internal records

Site and Warehouse Exposure

  • Support basic inventory handling and logistics coordination
  • Support testing, setup, or basic handling of mechanical components
  • Warehouse assistance duties as needed (light physical tasks)

Qualifications

Education

  • Near completion or recently completed in the Mechanical Engineering / Drafting discipline

Technical Skills

  • Basic proficiency in AutoCAD (required or strongly preferred)
  • Understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, or piping preferred)
  • Familiarity with technical drawings and construction documents

Experience (Preferred)

  • Valid British Columbia driver’s license (required)
  • Ability to work in office + warehouse environment
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Comfortable working under deadlines and managing multiple tasks
