HR EMPLOYEE RELATIONS SPECIALIST

Position Number SPD-HR- Standard Position Description Section 2: Position Purpose The HR Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for performing HR-related duties, with a primary focus on employee relations. They will work closely with the HR Team and staff management, as well as with the program teams at all affiliates. They will support all employee related tasks while ensuring the highest level of integrity, confidentiality, and security. Their main job function will be to conduct employee-related investigations, provide feedback/advice/guidance on employee related issues, and ensure all employee related issues are documented. The HR Employee Relations Specialist will meet deadlines and comply with expectations according to state and federal regulations, handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and work as an individual contributor within a team. Section 3: Major Responsibilities The HR Employee Relations Specialist’s primary job is to build and maintain healthy relationships between staff employees and the company, while ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies. They act as a mediator between employees and management, addressing workplace issues, resolving conflicts, and providing guidance to both parties, as well as assisting with post-employment and unemployment claims.

  • Conflict Resolution: investigate employee complaints and grievances, conduct internal investigations, and mediate disputes between employees or between employees and management.
  • Training and Education: provide training to managers and employees on topics such as employee relations, conflict resolution, and company policies.
  • Performance Management: assist program in developing and implementing performance management plans, including disciplinary actions.
  • Compliance: ensure the company complies with all relevant employment laws and regulations.
  • Employee Engagement: work to improve employee morale and engagement, often through initiatives that promote a positive work environment.
  • Labor Relations: In some cases, they may be involved in labor relations, including contract negotiations and grievance handling.
  • Legal Advice: often work closely with legal counsel to ensure the company's actions are compliant with all laws and regulations.
  • Data and Analytics: may also be involved in collecting and analyzing data related to employee relations issues.
  • Claim Processing: Handling new claims and verifying information, assisting with appeals or disputes related to unemployment benefits, and maintaining accurate records of unemployment insurance claims and related transactions, as well as ensuring the employee record is updated and accurately reflects a clear timeline of employment

Section 6: Job Qualifications and Competencies Job Qualifications Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or business administration
  • SHRM-CP/PHR certification (preferred)
  • General Human Resources Experience: 3+ years (Preferred)

  • Knowledge of Human Resources laws and practices.
