Data Journalist
This is a fully remote position open to applicants worldwide. Chartosaur is a data visualization and storytelling studio. We reach 300K+ people across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, and deliver private data visualization and presentation trainings for teams. Our work runs on one belief: there’s a good story in almost every dataset, and most of the time nobody finds it or shows it well. We’re looking for a Data Journalist to find and tell those stories. This sits between a newsroom data reporter and a data visualization designer. You’ll dig into datasets, work out what’s actually interesting, and turn it into content people want to read and watch. The story is the job. Everything else supports it. The Role This is a fully remote, freelance contractor position at approximately 40 hours per week. It is a contract engagement rather than full-time employment and does not include employee benefits. Responsibilities - Source and explore datasets to find story-worthy angles - Analyze and validate data so every story holds up - Design clear, well crafted data visualizations - Write blog posts and the narrative behind our content - Lead the analysis and story direction for content on YouTube, Instagram, and our other channels (the team handles editing) - Collaborate with the team to turn raw findings into finished pieces - Join our private B2B data visualization and storytelling trainings from time to time, sharing how you find and tell stories in data Requirements - A sharp eye for finding stories in data, this is the core of the role - Strong design sense for data visualization, not just technically correct but genuinely good to look at - Experience sourcing, cleaning, and analyzing data with spreadsheets and a language such as Python, R, or SQL - Strong writing, able to make complex things clear without flattening them - Self directed, generates ideas and moves them forward independently - Comfortable occasionally presenting to client teams in our trainings Bonus - D3.js for building custom visualizations - A portfolio of data stories, redesigns, or visualization work Subject to legal hiring and payment eligibility Apply tot his job Apply To this Job
